Biography
My career path over the last several decades has contributed greatly to what makes me the kind of coach I am today. As a nurse (BSN), I gained an appreciation for the importance of health and vitality in our lives. As an administrator (MPA), manager, and facilitator in a corporate team environment, I learned the importance of a compelling vision and consistent action to reaching a goal.
I am a strong advocate of participatory leadership and thoughtful and sound planning within organizations. I have had the privilege of leading organizations in strategic planning along with implementation both nationally and internationally. I have seen that the best success comes when leadership is committed and staff is involved in the early planning phases and the challenging work of ongoing implementation.
Over time it became clear to me that the processes I used to facilitate within an organization could be adapted and applied to our own personal lives to help us achieve our life goals, deal with life transitions or help us move through those times of feeling stuck more successfully.
In my coaching practice I use a holistic approach grounded in the belief that all personal success includes a center of personal wellbeing. I support clients in developing fail-safe steps to achieve their goals. I encourage small steps, celebration, follow-through, accountability, implementation and more celebration. In addition, my experience and research shows that coaching done in small groups increase our likelihood of success. For that reason, along with my one-on-one coaching, I offer small group coaching to support my clients in achieving the highest degree of follow-through and success. The sense of community in the small groups adds to the richness of the process and increases the wisdom and resources available.
I am certified as a facilitator by the International Association of Facilitators, certified and serve as faculty and provide training for Technology of Participation® methods, and a certified trainer for the Myers-Briggs Type Personality Assessment tool. In addition, I am a facilitator of Tai Chi Easy; and I am certified as a Health and Wellness Coach by the Circle of Life. I have expanded my facilitation and coaching expertise through course work, retreats and seminars in group process, self-care, and coaching.
Believing that a “coach needs a coach” I maintain a working relationship with my own personal coach. This keeps me honest, authentic, focused and on track to achieve my own personal goals as well working more successfully with my clients. My self-care commitment includes Chi Gong, Tai Chi Easy, kayaking, walking my dog, maintaining close friendships, and remembering to breathe deeply!
